Cleanups on Pitts Memorial Drive & Peacekeepers Way this Weekend

On Sunday a section of Pitts Memorial Drive and a section of Peacekeepers Way will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a cleanup of litter and large discarded items.

Peacekeepers Way will be closed between Fowler’s Road and the interchange with the Trans-Canada Highway while Pitts Memorial Drive will be closed from the interchange to the New Gower Street, St. John’s, intersection.

During the closure, traffic control will be in place to assist motorists.

This closure will also allow the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to complete highway maintenance.

Back on May 15, the department closed the Outer Ring Road for a cleanup that resulted in the equivalent of 10 tandem dump trucks of garbage removed from the highway, including 2,400 bags of garbage.

The department also used the closure to replace highway signs, remove illegally-posted signs, replace guide rails, remove excess sand and debris, and repair shoulder erosion.
