The City of St. John’s has begun distributing 2027 property assessments to residents, with notices expected to arrive by mail over the coming weeks.
Property owners can also access both current and previous property assessments online through the city’s assessment search application.
The city said property assessments are completed on a two-year cycle, with 2027 marking the second year of the current assessment period. All properties are assessed using a common base date to ensure consistency across the municipality.
For the 2027 assessment year, property values are based on market conditions as of Jan. 1, 2024.
The city also noted there is a formal appeal process for property owners who disagree with the assessed value of their property. Appeals are reviewed independently through the Assessment Review Court.
The deadline to file an appeal for the 2027 assessment notices is Aug. 10, 2026.
Appeal forms must be submitted in person at the Access Centre at City Hall on New Gower Street or sent by courier to ensure they are received before the deadline. An appeal will only be considered complete once both the required form and applicable fee have been received.
