A child was taken to hospital after reportedly being struck by a vehicle in St. John’s on Monday.
Firefighters were called near the intersection of Nascopie Crescent and Prospero Place just before 3:25 p.m. on Monday, when firefighters arrived. A child who had reportedly been struck by a pick-up truck on his bike was on the sidewalk waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.
The vehicle reportedly involved in the incident did leave the scene but drove past the incident a short time later, causing police to partially block the vehicle at the intersection of Old Pennywell Road and Prospero Place a very short distance from the incident. It is unknown at this time if any offences have been laid against the operator of the pick-up.
The child was taken to hospital aboard a NLHS ambulance with injuries reported as not serious. Officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Traffic Services team also attended the scene.
More information will be provided at a later time if it becomes available.
