Carbonear to consider inconveniences of bump-outs on Water Street

There was some debate at the Carbonear Town Council this past week about construction on Water Street.

The town has utilized bump-outs on some revitalized areas. Bump-outs are curb extensions used as a traffic calming measure. It widens the sidewalk for a short distance. Not only is it used as a traffic calming measure but it has also been used for sidewalk seating for some local businesses.

Some councillors raised concerns that it makes it difficult to turn onto Water Street from some of the narrow side streets.

Before the work continues down water street, the town will consider the inconveniences of the bump-outs.
