For the first time ever, Canada has met its NATO commitment of spending 2 percent of its GDP on defence.

Canada and European Allies have increased spending by 20 percent compared to 2024, according to new data.

All Allies reported defence expenditure that met or exceeded the 2014 target of 2 percent of GDP, the first time this has happened.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said, "Canada has hit its 2 percent NATO defence spending target. We made a promise to transform our defence — and we’re getting it done."
