The provincial government has launched a new call for proposals under the 2026 Community Violence Prevention Grants Program, aimed at supporting community-led initiatives that address gender-based violence.
The announcement was made by Lela Evans, Minister of Women and Gender Equality, who said the program is intended to fund local projects that help prevent violence and strengthen community supports across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The funding is being delivered through a $13.6 million, four-year bilateral agreement with Women and Gender Equality Canada under the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence.
Officials said the program focuses on addressing the root causes of gender-based violence and reducing risk factors that contribute to harm and victimization, particularly among women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, with an emphasis on rural communities.
Eligible applicants can apply for grants of up to $50,000. Priority will be given to proposals that build community support networks, support survivors and their families, engage men and boys in prevention efforts, challenge the normalization of violence, reduce stigma, and promote healing and mental well-being for those affected by gender-based violence.
Applications must be submitted to the provincial Office of Women and Gender Equality by June 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. (NDT).
