Bay St. George RCMP have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a retail theft in Stephenville.

Police say officers responded Tuesday, Jan. 13, to a report of theft from a store on Prince Rupert Drive. A store employee reported that a man known to staff had left the store with unpaid merchandise and provided a description to police.

The suspect, a man from Mattis Point, was located and arrested a short time later.

He has been charged with theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order. The man is scheduled to appear in Stephenville provincial court on March 15.

The investigation is continuing.
