Bay Roberts RCMP investigates fatal collision

One man is deceased and another has serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision that occurred last night on the Veterans Memorial Highway.

RCMP received the report of the collision at 10:24 p.m. When officers responded to the scene, it appeared that two vehicles, a Subaru Impreza and a GMS Sierra, collided head on; the pickup truck was on fire. Officers and bystanders extinguished the blaze, primarily with snow prior to the arrival of fire departments.

The driver of the Subaru Impreza died at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra sustained serious injuries and is hospitalized. There were no passengers in the vehicles.

The Bay Roberts and Bay de Grave Fire Departments responded as well, along with a RCMP Collision Reconstructionist. Also engaged is the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The investigation is continuing and will look to determine the cause of the crash.

Any members of the public who assisted at the scene are asked to contact Bay Roberts RCMP.
