Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department were called to a home on Eastbourne Crescent in the city’s east end just after 10:10 p.m. on Monday night.
Crews arrived on scene and quickly found the source of the fire, containing it before it could cause any more damage to the home. The fire was contained to the room and is believed to have originated from batteries that were being charged inside the home for a lawnmower.
The room did sustain fire damage along with water damage; the home sustained smoke damage throughout. Firefighters isolated the batteries in a bucket of water and took it outside the home.
One person was treated on scene and later taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke from the fire; three occupants of the home have been displaced due to the incident.
