Barricaded Man Taken Into Custody in Deer Lake

RCMP have arrested a man who had barricaded himself in a residence in Deer Lake on Saturday.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m., police received a report of an assault and attended a home on Main Dam Road in Deer Lake to follow up.

The accused, 35-year-old Mitchell Renouf is charged with Assault, Uttering Threats, and Two counts of breach of a court order.

An individual exited the home and Renouf, who was believed to be in possession of a weapon, refused to do so. The individual reported being assaulted and threatened by Renouf. Police evacuated neighbouring residences and blocked off access to the area.

RCMP Police Dog Services Central and West, as well as officers with the RCMP Emergency Response Team and Corner Brook and Deer Lake detachments, attended the scene.

An RCMP Crisis Negotiator also attended the scene and made contact with Renouf. Shortly after 9:00 pm, after much negotiating, Renouf exited the residence and was taken into police custody without further incident. A machete was located inside the residence.

The investigation is ongoing.
