The City of St. John’s is advising residents that Bannerman Park and St. Pat's Ballfield will be temporarily closed today as crews carry out treatment work as part of the province’s Japanese beetle eradication program.

The closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At Bannerman Park, the closure will include the playground and splash pad. The Bannerman Pool House, however, will remain open throughout the day.

According to the city, the treatments are being conducted to help prevent the spread of the Japanese beetle, an invasive insect that can damage a wide variety of plants, trees and turfgrass.
