Auditor General releases report on the MV Veteran and MV Legionnaire
An Auditor General report into the provinces acquiring of the MV Veteran and the MV Legionnaire states that The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure did not effectively manage the construction, operationalization and initial operations of the ships.
The report outlines that the Department did not follow expected project management planning processes.
During the first three years of operation, the MV Veteran and the MV Legionnaire had a combined total of 607 out of service days. Equipment failures and vessel damages also resulted in unplanned costs of approximately $4.2 million.
Additionally, concerns related to the Department’s management of the project that may have contributed to the significant operational delays, service disruptions and substantial unplanned costs during the construction, operationalization and initial operations of the vessels.
