A 36-year-old man is facing multiple weapons-related charges following an incident involving a taxi driver in St. John’s late Tuesday night.

The RNC responded to a report of a weapons offence in the area of University Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. on June 9.

Police received information that several men had exited a taxi without paying their fare and that one of the individuals had allegedly produced an edged weapon during the incident.

Officers located the group a short distance away and arrested a man believed to be in possession of the weapon. Police said the edged weapon was found on the suspect during the arrest.

The man was taken to the St. John’s lockup and charged with assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
