There are speed cameras in place in many parts of the province, but are they yielding results?

There are cameras on the Veteran’s Memorial Highway, Waterford Bridge Road in St. John’s, Larkhall Street in St. John’s, the Trans-Canada Highway near Gander, and Blackmarsh Road in Mount Pearl.

Newfound News asked the Department of Government Services how many tickets have been issued for speeding infractions so far. As of September 25, 2025, 210 tickets have been served.

As vehicles pass a speed camera, the speed at which the vehicle is travelling is detected by the camera. If a vehicle is speeding, the camera takes a picture of the rear license plate along with the date and time the image was captured, the location of the speed camera, the speed the vehicle was travelling stated in kilometres per hour, the posted speed limit, and the direction of travel of the vehicle.
