Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been released from police custody after being detained on Thursday morning.
The arrest, which occurred on his 66th birthday, was made on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Officers arrived at the Sandringham estate and carried out a search at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, a residence where Andrew previously lived.
King Charles III later issued a statement expressing his “deepest concern” over the situation. The arrest marks the first time a senior member of the British royal family has been taken into custody since the arrest of King Charles I in 1647.
Prince Andrew has long been associated with Jeffrey Epstein, the late American convicted sex offender.
