The Newfoundland and Labrador government has activated its Disaster Financial Assistance Program to help municipalities and local service districts recover costs related to wildfires that burned across parts of the Avalon Peninsula in the summer of 2025.

Under the program, municipalities and local service districts impacted by wildfires in August 2025 in Conception Bay North, Holyrood and Paddy's Pond can apply for reimbursement of eligible expenses.

The funding is available only to local authorities and does not apply to individual households, businesses or private property owners.

Eligible costs may include emergency response expenses such as overtime wages, evacuation activities, equipment rentals and materials used in fire suppression efforts. Municipalities may also seek reimbursement for restoration work, including repairs to uninsurable infrastructure and costs associated with post-disaster recovery planning.

Compensation will be provided based on criteria established under both federal and provincial disaster financial assistance programs.

Municipalities and local service districts have until Sept. 25, 2026, to submit claims for eligible expenses related to the wildfires.
