A wet and windy day ahead

Newfoundland and Labrador can expect a wet and windy day today.

On the Island, skies will vary between sun and cloud, with many areas seeing a risk of passing showers.

The Avalon Peninsula will also see a mix of sun and cloud. Rain is expected elsewhere.

Across Labrador, wetter weather dominates along the coast.

Farther inland, conditions improve. Happy Valley-Goose Bay will see a mix of sun and cloud and the chance of an isolated shower, while Churchill Falls will see sunny breaks mixed with a few showers.

Across the Island, afternoon highs will range from 16°C to 24°C. The warmest temperatures are expected in central Newfoundland, where Gander is forecast to reach 24°C. Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook and Port Saunders are all expected to top out around 22°C, while Port aux Basques reaches 19°C. St. John's will remain cooler at 18°C under a mix of sun and cloud, with Marystown reaching 17°C and St. Anthony 16°C.

Labrador will see a wide range of temperatures. Happy Valley-Goose Bay is expected to warm to 22°C with a mix of sun and cloud, while Churchill Falls and Nain reach 18°C. Labrador City and Hopedale are forecast to top out at 15°C, with Mary's Harbour remaining the coolest at 13°C. Showers are expected for much of the coast, while inland areas will see brighter breaks.

Winds will become gusty through the day, especially across western Newfoundland and parts of Labrador. Peak wind gusts are forecast to reach:

• 70 km/h in Labrador City

• 68 km/h in Corner Brook

• 62 km/h in Churchill Falls

• 59 km/h in Gander

• 56 km/h in Grand Falls-Windsor

• 50 km/h in St. Anthony and Port aux Basques

• 49 km/h in St. John's
