A Profile on Andrew Furey #nlpoli

Andrew Furey is currently the leader of the Liberal Party and is the Premier. He is the MHA for Humber-Gros Morne.

Before entering politics in 2020, Furey was an orthopedic surgeon.

Furey lives in Portugal Cove–St. Philip's and is married to Dr. Allison Furey. They have 3 children, Rachel, Maggie and Mark.

While only entering politics in 2020, Furey is no stranger to the life of politics. His father, George Furey is a Senator and eventually became the Speaker of the Senate. His uncle, Chuck Furey, was MHA for St. Barbe and served as a cabinet minister in the provincial government.

In 2011, Furey co-founded Team Broken Earth, a volunteer task force supporting the relief effort in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. Furey also co-founded the "A Dollar a Day" foundation alongside singer-songwriter Alan Doyle and businessman Brendan Paddick, which aims to provide funding for mental health initiatives in Newfoundland and Labrador.

When Dwight Ball announced his eventual resignation in February 2020, Furey quickly became a potential contender and was almost immediately regarded as the frontrunner to succeed him.

Over the next three days, we will profile each party leader. Tomorrow is Progressive Conservative Lader Ches Crosbie.
