RCMP Arrest Man Charged with Weapon Offence in Salmon Cove

A 54-year-old man from Salmon Cove faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief by damaging property and a breach of his probation order after being taken into custody by Harbour Grace RCMP this morning.

RCMP received a report of a man who damaged a vehicle with a weapon in the community of Salmon Cove and departed the area on foot.

Police attended the community and located the lone man, who was still in possession of the weapon, at the United Church cemetery.

Officers set up a perimeter of the area in the interest of public safety.

Police utilized pepper spray on the suspect and he was then transported to the Carbonear General Hospital.

The suspect remains in police custody pending a court appearance.
