Roaming Black Bears in Fleur de Lys

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is encouraging the residents of Fleur de Lys and area to properly store household garbage to address the problem of black bears roaming the community.

To avoid attracting bears in communities and backyards do not store garbage in outside containers until collection day and keep pets inside or under close supervision.

Two bear traps are currently set in the community and conservation officers continue to monitor the area. The public are reminded to avoid areas where traps have been set.

Anyone sighting a black bear in this area is asked to call the Forestry and Wildlife District Office in Springdale 709-673-3821 or the emergency 24-hour standby number at 709-668-0777.
