Injured Hunter Airlifted for Medical Treatment
On September 21, Stephenville RCMP responded to a call of a hunter in medical distress – a 25-year-old man had sustained head injuries as a result of an ATV rollover near the head waters of Fox Island River, approximately 30 kilometres north of Cold Brook.
RCMP, along with partnering agencies Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Eastern Health, Western Health and Stephenville-Kippens-Port Au Port Ground Search and Rescue, worked together through the night to locate and airlift the man for treatment at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook. The man was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
The investigation is ongoing but it has been determined that alcohol was not a factor in the incident. The cause of the rollover is believed to be uneven distribution of weight on the ATV.
