RCMP Stop Driver Going 185 km/h #nltraffic

On Saturday morning the RCMP was conducting patrols on the Trans-Canada Highway near Witless Bay Line.

Police observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

The officer activated his radar unit, obtained a speed of 185 km/h in the 100 km/h zone and initiated a traffic stop.

Open alcohol was observed in the vehicle and the driver, a 22-year-old man from South River, was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Police used a roadside screening device and the man provided a breath sample that was in breach of provincial legislation.

The man was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for speeding more than 51 km/h and for driving with expired registration. He was also charged under the Liquor Control Act for having open alcohol in the vehicle. Police suspended his driver’s licence for seven days and seized and impounded his vehicle for seven days.
