Black Bear Sighted in Corner Brook

On Sunday afternoon the RNC in Corner Brook received a report of a black bear in the Fillatre Avenue area.

The Department of Wildlife was notified.

Conservation officers are monitoring and advise residents to take appropriate steps to avoid encounters with black bears.

Anyone who happens to see a black bear in the area is asked to call the Forestry and Wildlife District Office in Massey Drive at 637-2370 or the standby number at 632-9897.

To avoid attracting bears in communities and backyards, ensure proper storage and disposal of garbage, do not store garbage in outside containers until collection day, keep pets inside or under close supervision.

The public are also reminded never to feed any wildlife as it creates a public safety hazard and may lead to the destruction of the animal.

Under no circumstances should a black bear be approached.
