RNC Make Arrest in Lab West After Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

On August 7th, 2019, RNC Operational Patrol Services while conducting regular patrols in the city of Wabush, NL observed a dirt bike operating on the roadway in a dangerous manner.

Officers attempted to stop the dirt bike however once the emergency equipment was activated the operator accelerated at a high rate of speed.

In the interest of public safety officers disengaged from the bike but continued to patrol the area.

Less than 10 minutes later officers observed the same dirt bike in the same area of Wabush.

Again officer’s activated the emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the operator however the bike accelerated away from police.

On August 7th, 2019 as result of the investigation into these incidents, a 18 year old male resident of Labrador City, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of flight from police, as well as 2 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was released from custody to appear in court at a later date. The dirt bike alleged to be operated at the time of the offences was also seized by police.

The RNC would like to remind the public that these types of vehicles are not designed or intended for operation on public roads. Operating these vehicles on public roads could result in the operator receiving Summary Offence Ticket(s) under various Provincial Legislation, vehicle seizures, and Criminal Charge(s).
