Social Media and Mental Health

With the high number of people who use social networking sites, there are increasing concerns about the links to mental health and addictions-related issues, specifically among young people.

According to a new study by researchers at Montreal's Sainte-Justine Hospital, screen time, most notably social networks, lead to an increase in depressive symptoms.

One of the main thing social media does to people is causes low self-esteem. People compare themselves to the seemingly perfect photos of others, whether we know we are doing it or not.

There is also a lot of negativity on social media and exposing yourself to it over-and-over again can lead to you being depressed.

It also can cause problems when you interact with people, in person.

If you are feeling depressed or suicidal seek medical attention immediately call 911 or the Mental Health Crisis Line 24 hour like at 1-888-737-4668.
