Police Seize About a Million Dollars in Drugs

RCMP have arrested forty-year-old John Peppin of Brentwood, British Columbia.

He appeared in court to face charges of drug trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine and cannabis marihuana.

On November 17, 2017, police initiated an investigation into the importation of a large quantity of illicit drugs from Western Canada to St. John's. On that same date, officers conducted a traffic stop in the St. John's area where a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of three kilograms of nearly pure cocaine, 44 pounds of cannabis marihuana and an extendable baton.

The resulting investigation identified Peppin as the person responsible for transporting the drugs to St. John's.

A Canada-wide warrant of arrest was issued for him. On June 24, 2019, he was located and arrested in British Columbia, with the assistance of the Victoria Police Department.

It is typical for cocaine at the multi-kilogram level to be diluted several times while being prepared for use at the street level. The total street value for both drugs seized in this investigation is in the range of $880,000 to $1,060,000.
