International Year of the Salmon Poster and Essay Contest Winners Announced

The winners of a provincial poster and essay contest commemorating International Year of the Salmon has been announced.

The Provincial Government invited Kindergarten to Grade 12 students across the province to create posters and essays based on the theme “What does salmon conservation mean to you?” There were 272 entries received from across the province. The overall winner was Amber Gibbon, a Grade 12 student at Stephenville High School, for her painted poster.

The contest was broken down into four grade categories, with first-place and second-place cash prizes of $100 and $50, as well as one overall provincial winner of $300.

All posters and essays will be displayed at Salmonier Nature Park, with the winning designs highlighted within the park’s new interpretive salmon exhibit.
