House of Assembly Passes Budget #nlpoli
The Provincial Budget has passed in the House of Assembly.
The Liberals obtained support from the NDP, and Independent MHA, Paul Lane, to allow enough votes for it to pass.
As expected, the Progressive Conservative's voted against it.
Highlights of Budget 2019 include:
Maintaining course to return to surplus by 2022-23;
Elimination of the Retail Sales Tax on automobile insurance;
Exempt payments from child support, Canada Pension Plan Disabled Contributor’s Benefit, and Canada Pension Plan Surviving Child Benefit for the purpose of determining eligibility for income support;
More than $100 million to support new jobs and economic development;
$594.3 million for new and existing schools, health care facilities, post-secondary institutions, transportation, justice, housing and municipal infrastructure;
Improving access to mental health and addictions services, home and community care, and primary health care;
Creating more affordable child care spaces; and
Support better educational outcomes for students.
