Public Invited to Pay Respects to Beaton Tulk #nlpoli

Beaton Tulk has died at the age of 75. He served as the seventh Premier of Newfoundland from 2000 to 2001 as a member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Tulk was first elected to the Newfoundland House of Assembly in 1979.

Tulk died from prostate cancer. He was diagnosed with the illness fifteen years prior to his death.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised Tulk's career of "putting people first" citing his death as a "loss of a great Canadian and a great Liberal".

Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote said in part, "his years in public service as a teacher and political figure saw him make a difference in the lives of those with whom he interacted."

Premier Ball said, "our province lost a political giant."

Out of respect for Mr. Tulk, flags at Provincial Government buildings and Government House are being flown at half-mast.

The general public is invited to pay their respects to Beaton Tulk today at the Confederation Building.
