Nain man charged with bootlegging

On May 22, 2019, Nain RCMP, with assistance from Happy Valley-Goose Bay General Investigation Section, executed a search warrant on a local residence after receiving information that alcohol was being bootlegged.

Martin Merkuratsuk, a 30-year-old man from Nain, was arrested and charged with selling contraband alcoholic liquor pursuant to the Liquor Control Act and failure to comply with an undertaking. The man was released from custody on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.

A large quantity of illegal alcohol was subsequently seized at a residence in the community.
