RCMP responds to shots fired in residential area of Carbonear

RCMP responded to multiple calls of men carrying long guns and wearing body armor in Carbonear on Saturday.

Harbour Grace RCMP received calls from people who who witnessed seven or eight young men exit vehicles on a residential road in Carbonear, moments later another call of shots fired from the area.

Officers from Harbour Grace and Bay Roberts Detachments responded. After a few intense moments, it was determined that the males, aged 15-18, from the Carbonear area, were actually in possession of air soft guns.

These guns, however, resembled firearms, and could have been mistaken as such.

Harbour Grace RCMP cautions the public or parents who allow their children to use air soft, paint ball, or pellet guns which resemble firearms, in a public place. These toys have no visible markings or identifiable features to display that they are not firearms. They can easily be confused by the public and police as being real firearms and can cause people to be on high alert.
