Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing in Mount Pearl Today

The City of Mount Pearl wishes to notify residents that Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing will be taking place on

  • Roosevelt Avenue

  • Second Street

  • First Street

  • Edinburgh Drive

  • St. David’s Avenue

  • Teasdale Street

  • Sunrise Avenue ( Third Street to Commonwealth Avenue)

And any side street in their vicinity, Monday, April 29, 2019 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

This testing is being conducted to identify and locate any defects in the main sewer line and service lateral that connects to residences. The process involves injecting an artificially produced smoke into a blocked off pipeline segment to see where the smoke emerges.

It is common to see plumes of smoke issuing up from unusual places such as cracks in the street or yards in the areas being tested. Crews will be on-site to conduct the tests and monitor and flag where smoke escapes to identify any areas in need of repairs.

The smoke utilized is not harmful to people, pets or plants. If smoke is identified in your workplace or home, please open the doors and windows for ventilation. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the City at 709.748.1016.
