Crown Seeking Jail Time for Man Who Killed Family Cat

The Crown is seeking two-months in jail and a ban on owning an animal for three years for 54-year-old John Duff from Goulds.

Duff has pleaded guilty to killing his pet cat after stabbing the animal in the kitchen sink. The incident happened on October 13, 2018.

When police responded to a call from Duff’s son, they found the cat deceased outside the home and fur and blood in the kitchen sink.

Duff says he killed the animal with a knife because the cat was 14-years-old, elderly and obese.

Aside from the jail time and the animal ban, Duff will also need two-months supervised probation, counselling and a DNA order if the judge agrees with the Crown.
