RNC Locate Pair in Cross Island Crime Spree
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have arrested two males who were wanted by the RCMP in connection with offences committed across the island on Thursday.
On April 19, 2019, at 12:00 pm, an officer with RNC Patrol Services was on Patrol in the O’Connell Drive area of the City and observed a Male that matched the description provided by the RCMP that was reported to have been involved in the Cross Island Crime Spree. The Male was operating a vehicle and the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The Driver of the vehicle failed to stop for police so the officer continued to follow at a safe distance with no attempt by police to stop it, only in an effort to determine its location and final destination. RNC Operational Patrol Officers determined the vehicle entered the Trans-Canada Highway into the RCMP Jurisdiction and the RCMP was notified to assist. The vehicle was followed and eventually entered an area that was a dead end causing the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle and flee on foot.
RNC Police Service Dog was deployed and both males were arrested after being tracked by the dog and his handler.
The driver, a 27 year old Male resident of Corner Brook has been charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor vehicle. He has been held in custody for a court appearance.
The male passenger was turned over to the RCMP to face potential charges related to the incident on Thursday.
