Recap from Operation IMPACT

The RCMP and RNC participated in Operation: Impact over the Thanksgiving Day Weekend.

Operation Impact is an annual fall traffic enforcement blitz aimed at raising awareness to dangerous driving behaviour on our province’s roads.

Over the weekend, officers issued over 200 Summary Offence Tickets under the Highway Traffic Act, most notably for speeding. Several vehicles were impounded under newly strengthened traffic laws for exceeding the posted speed limit by 50km/h or more: Two vehicles were impounded for driving 151 km/h & 171 km/h on the Outer Ring Road in St. John’s and another on the TCH at 161 km/h.

Police are reminding the motoring public that the real cost of careless driving behaviours on our roadways are the life changing injuries and deaths that result because of motor vehicle collisions.
