Governor General Julie Payette Visits Newfoundland
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada will visit Newfoundland and Labrador today.
Premier Ball and Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote will welcome Payette to the province.
This marks Her Excellency’s first official visit to Newfoundland and Labrador.
The official welcome will take place in St. John’s on the steps of Confederation Building at 9:30 a.m. where Her Excellency will receive full military honours. The general public is invited to attend the ceremony.
Premier Ball and the Lieutenant Governor will host a private reception in honour of Her Excellency’s official visit at Government House at 7:00 p.m. Members of the media are invited to cover speeches and Her Excellency presenting a Meritorious Service Decoration and Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
Following the Governor General’s visit to St. John’s, she will travel to Labrador for a series of meetings and events.
Visitors to the Confederation Building Complex are advised that parking and access restrictions will be in place today near the East Block to accommodate the arrival of Payette.
Access to the front parking lot and entrance of East Block at 100 Prince Philip Drive will only be available to media and invited guests.
Parking and access restrictions will be in place from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Security officers and barricades will be in place.
Parking for visitors to the Confederation Building Complex is available in the remaining parking lots. Metered parking for the public is also available adjacent to West Block. As per normal protocols, visitors must use the entrance in the basement of East Block.
