Update on Brush Clearing Along Provincial Highways
More than 80 per cent of 2018-19 brush clearing contracts have been awarded, with the remainder anticipated to be awarded by September, ahead of the busy fall traffic season.
Budget 2018 allocated approximately $2 million to clear more than 367 hectares of brush along provincial highways.
Brush clearing makes it easier for motorists to spot animals near the highway, especially near heavily forested areas. It also makes highway signs easier to see, increases visibility in areas with turns and hills, and provides more space for snow removal.
Areas identified for brush clearing were determined based on factors including traffic volumes, visibility and moose-vehicle collision rates.
