Send-off Celebration for Special Olympics Athletes


There will be a send-off celebration for Special Olympics athletes today at 6:45 p.m. at the Memorial University’s Bruneau Centre for Innovation and Research.

Approximately 50 Special Olympians from throughout Newfoundland and Labrador will compete at the 2018 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, being held from July 31 to August 4.

Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, Lisa Dempster, will attend the event.

There will be 9 summer sports featured, athletics, basketball, bocce, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball and swimming.
