Several Newfoundland Newspapers Being Discontinued

There is a major change to the media landscape in central Newfoundland.

Saltwire Network, which owns newspapers in this province says that they are discontinuing four newspapers in central Newfoundland.

The Gander Beacon, the Lewisporte Pilot, the Grand Falls-Windsor Advertiser, and the Springdale Nor’Wester will be merged in to a new newspaper known as the Central Voice.

Five jobs have been cut as a result.

The new paper will be produced in St. John's. The Compass is also managed in St. John's. The Carbonear office was closed.

Changes take place on August 1.
