The Provincial Government has now identified a shortlist of proponents to move to the Request for Proposals stage for the two new 60-bed long-term care homes in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor.

Central Care Partnership, Infraworks and Newfoundland and Labrador Healthcare Partners will submit proposals to design, build, finance and maintain the new facilities through a public-private partnership. The successful proponent will deliver both homes under a single contract with construction expected to begin in 2019.

The selection of these teams follows the first-stage of the procurement process, a Request for Qualifications, issued on January 5.

The Request for Proposals will require the shortlisted proponents to submit full project proposals, which will include technical details on the construction and maintenance of the new facility and a more in-depth demonstration of their financial capacities to successfully deliver the project.

Construction on both projects and a 20-bed protective care unit for the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre in Botwood will begin in 2019, leading to more than 343 person-years of employment created and $39 million in economic activity.
