NAPE Calls for Presumptive Legislation
NAPE commissioned a position paper titled ‘A Call for presumptive legislation: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Occupational Stress Injuries, and the Wellbeing of the Workforce’.
The union says that members personally face or witness dangerous, threatening, violent, and/or traumatizing situations. These situations can have a deep and lasting impact that can lead to operational stress and mental health injuries/illnesses that have traditionally called disorders including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, sleep, mood disorders).
NAPE says that it is important for employers to offer regular critical incident stress management. It is also important for employers and co-workers to recognize the symptoms of these injuries and encourage people exhibiting symptoms to seek help.
