Police Horse Dobbin Passes Away

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said that one of their Mounted Unit Percherons, Dobbin, had died at the age of 15.

Dobbin joined the RNC’s Mounted Unit in 2009 thanks to generous support from the Dobbin Family. Dobbin was first paired with Sgt. Krista Clarke who formed an immediate and unbreakable bond with the nearly 1900 lb Percheron horse.

The RNC’s Mounted Unit provides a valuable service to the RNC as their versatility allows them to access areas of the community that are otherwise unreachable during ground searches. The Mounted Unit also patrols trail-ways throughout the Northeast Avalon, attends community events, and they aid in police presence in the downtown core.

Dobbin leaves behind his two closest friends Dr. Rich and Harvey, who were also gifts to the RNC’s Mounted Unit from supportive families in the province.
