Police arrest 13-year-old male for school threats

Wednesday morning around 9:00 am, Sheshatshiu RCMP received a complaint from Lake Melville School regarding a social media post with a potential threat to Sheshatshiu Innu School and Lake Melville School. As a precaution, both schools were put into hold and secure mode.

As a result of an investigation, a 13-year-old male youth, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the youth criminal justice act, was arrested without incident at his residence. The schools were then released from hold and secure mode.

The youth has been released to his guardian with conditions, and on a Youth Promise to Appear in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Provincial Court later in July 2018.

The police have determined that there is no threat to the Sheshatshiu Innu School, Lake Melville School or the public.
