Driver Arrested in Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision #nltraffic

A 17 year old female appeared at Provincial Court this afternoon after being arrested in connection with the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in St. John’s on Friday.

On Friday an RNC Patrol Officer travelling south on Hamlyn Road in St. John’s attempted to initiate a traffic safety stop with a vehicle that was also headed south on Hamlyn Road. The vehicle, a Honda Accord, failed to stop for the officer and collided with a west bound SUV travelling on Canada Drive.

There were four individuals in the Accord and a lone occupant in an SUV. A 19 year old woman of St. John’s, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 17 year old is charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Flight from Police Causing Death, Flight from Police Causing Bodily Harm, and several breaches of existing court orders.

The youth cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
