Serious Incident Response Team Conducting Fatal St. John's Accident
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating a fatal Motor Vehicle Collision that occurred in St. John’s on Friday evening.
On Friday just before 10:30 p.m. an RNC Officer travelling south on Hamlyn Road in St. John’s attempted to initiate a traffic safety stop with a vehicle that was also headed south on Hamlyn Road.
The vehicle failed to stop for the officer and collided with a west bound SUV travelling on Canada Drive.
There were four individuals in the suspect vehicle. A 17 year old female driver, as well as two male youths and a 19 year old woman of St. John’s, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital and the two male passengers received non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV, who was the lone occupant, sustained minor injuries.
RNC Cheif Joseph Boland has requested that the Department of Justice and Public Safety engage Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) to conduct an independent investigation.
