New Program to Keep Animals Safe in Abusive Relationship

The Iris Kirby House along with The City of St. john's and the RNC have joined forces to assist women to leave violent relationships and to ensure that their pets and safe as well.

The new program, announced on Monday, is designed to keep pets safe. Women will be able to put their pets safe at a shelter.

Many who own pets and are in an abusive relationship are reluctant to leave their pets behind and as a result will not seek help, said Michelle Greene, Executive Director at the Iris Kirby House.

In some cases the pets are harmed or even killed after a woman flees an abusive relationship.
