Old Perlican to Receive Coast Guard Search and Rescue Lifeboat Station
MP Churence Rogers announced yesterday that Old Perlican will be receiving a Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Lifeboat Station.
The station will be put in place to respond to marine emergencies.
The Bay de Verde Peninsula was selected based on identified gaps in the Coast Guard’s maritime search and rescue response capacity as well as an anticipated increase in vessel traffic in the area.
A detailed site analysis concluded that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans’ Small Craft Harbour Site in Old Perlican was the most suitable location for the lifeboat station.
There are currently 41 search and rescue stations located strategically across Canada to respond to maritime search and rescue incidents.
