Carbonear Mayor Removed From Office

Frank Butt has been removed as the Mayor of Carbonear.

Carbonear Town Council voted to remove Butt from the Mayor's chair after about a potential conflict of interest.

The last town council had received a letter alleging Frank Butt had made a motion to demolish a building in a property next to his.

If the property was demolished the value of Butt’s property would increase.

The incident was investigated by the Department of Municipal Affairs and a town lawyer.

Deputy Major Chris O’Grady will fill in as Mayor.

Frank Butt can appeal the decision.

Butt said on Facebook, "I am extremely disappointed in council’s decision and as a result, I am appealing their decision and cannot go into any further details."
