Vigil to be Held for Happy Valley-Goose Bay Mayor

There will be a vigil held for Happy Valley-Goose Bay Mayor John Hickey.

Hickey is in critical condition after a hunting accident on Saturday. He was shot in the face.

He is in critical but stable condition.

After the accident he was taken to the Labrador Health Centre. Afterward he was airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s.

MHA Perry Trimper and MP Yvonne Jones met with council yesterday to discuss continuity of town operations.

Hickey has served the citizens of Happy Valley-Goose Bay for 16 years as Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councilor.

Hickey was elected as the Member to the House of Assembly for the district of Lake Melville in 2003 and served until 2011. He was also the Minister of Transportation and Works and Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs.
