Suspect Jumps From Moving Vehicle, Flees into Woods #nltraffic

The RNC tried to stop a vehicle going 133 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the Trans-Canada Highway near Exit 4 in Corner Brook.

However the driver would not stop for police. The driver exited onto Exit 4 and proceeded to drive on Massey Drive Access Road near Lewin Parkway.

The operator of the vehicle exited the vehicle while the vehicle was moving and fled into a wooded area between the Massey Drive Access Road, Lewin Parkway and Trans –Canada Highway. The moving vehicle veered off the road and came to a stop in a wooded area on the shoulder of the road.

Additional Officers attended the area and set up containment on a portion of woods between Massey Drive Access Road and Trans-Canada Highway.

RNC Police Dog Services and RNC Forensic Identification were called to assist in the matter.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. the accused was located in this area on the Trans-Canada Highway and was arrested without incident.

As a result of an investigation, a 22 year old male from Grand Falls – Windsor, NL was charged with Flight from Police, two counts of Breach of a Court Order, Driving while Suspended, Speeding in excess of 31 km/h over posted limit, Operating an Unregistered Vehicle, and Operating a Vehicle without a Valid Insurance Policy.

The driver had in excess of $8400 in outstanding fines.

The vehicle was seized by police. The accused remains in custody and will appear in Provincial Court today.
